100th Post

Wow, 100 posts, with many more great things to come.

Today I stopped by the Capezio store on 51st and Broadway to pick up a pair of men's ballet flats appropriately named "Romeo" as I am planning on taking ballet classes in February. Very excited!

Tomorrow bright and early Abby and I are attending a live filming of the Martha Stewart Show. Again very excited.

Fashion week is right around the corner, shows shows and more shows, Again, super excited!

I'm being scheduled to shoot with StyleLikeU, a dream come true!

2010 is off to a great start, with so many great things yet to come! So much to do and accomplish, I've got to work, work, work! I love it.

A Very Vintage Weekend

I had the pleasure of spending my saturday afternoon browsing the countless booths at the New York Antique Show with my nearest and dearest Ginny Branch Stelling. We literally spent hours making numerous loops to and fro through all the old world wonders. I ended up walking away with a bejeweled apple who now happily greets everyone who enters the new apartment atop our hallway bookcase.

I do however regret not splurging on the art deco birdcage for $250 (a bargain in my eyes), perhaps at the next show I'll find it again and just go for it!

Today was equally as fun, a repeat date with Ginny, who this time was escorted by her husband Ed and myself with my Abby. We started our day with brunch at Maggie Browns, at the suggestion of Abby, and it was delicious. We walked off our meals on a rather scenic route of Brooklyn to get to the Brooklyn Flea Market. This is where I found this beauty....

A double breasted blazer made out of drippy silver sequins with gold anchor beading detail and anchor buttons, it was a no-brainer, had to have it! Besides any given day, I do have a special event to wear this to in February, it's perfect I'm so excited!

So that's been my weekend thus far. I'm planning on spending the rest of the day in some cozy clothes, cooking dinner with abby and hopefully popping out a few pieces for my etsy shop.

A Quiet Evening at Home

Peter and Abby's roommate bonding time...

Yeah, we cross-stitched monogrammed hand towels, so what!

Good Idea, Bad Outcome

After my last apartment I will never paint walls again until I own. Enough said. That being said I was researching easy ways to dress up plain old white walls, aside from the obvious of hanging pictures. I came across a few projects using contact paper to decorate your walls... inexpensive, mess free, fool proof... or so they make it seem. Don't get me wrong I've always been crafty, artistic and always driven to be and do the best, ask my friends they'll all tell you!

Anyway I chose an image of 3 deer heads I found online and using photoshop converted them into silhouettes. At my local dollar store (this may be where I went wrong) I found a dark woodgrain print that matched my new floors that I love and decided it was perfect.

I then blew the images up to the desired size and printed them out.

I then cut and pieced them together to trace onto the contact paper.

I was so excited to see how they were going to look I traced, cut out and hung the first of the 3 deer heads.

I was a little nervous as I applied the first deer noticing my contact paper really wasn't as sticky as one would think, we're talking less stick then a post-it. You see the best thing about this project is the pieces can be easily applied and removed without messing up the paint job on your wall. Well not 2 minutes after I get it perfectly mounted I notice the edges beginning to come loose. I left the room to grab my roommate Abby to show her and when we came back one of the antlers was already hanging down. A sad, sad sight to behold.

Final Thoughts: Perhaps, as stated above, I should have invested in a finer quality contact paper and not settled for the dollar store brand that most probably has been sitting there since 1981 when contact paper usage was at it's peak.

Will I retry this project you ask, maybe someday, I'm not a fan of disappointment (again ask my friends, they'll tell you), I think someday down the road I may revisit this idea, but until then, I will no longer skimp on my contact paper needs.

Roomie Love

Abby and I (on a whim) cemented our friendship forever by actually doing what we've been talking about for quite some time now. We dropped by Scott Campbell's Saved Tattoo here in Brooklyn and met with Tattoo Artist Diego Mannino. A little over an hour later we're both freshly inked!

2010: so far, so good!
